From your VP of Professional Development:
Thanks to 144 total attendees, 13 speakers, 4 gold sponsors, 2 silver sponsors, tremendous community support and numerous volunteers, this year's annual symposium was a SOLD OUT success!
Gathered in the Wortman Ballroom at Roanoke College, surrounded by beautiful mountain views, Andy Kaufman kicked our morning off with his award winning keynote, "Help for the Crazy Busy." Bringing tremendous energy, Andy challenged each of us to evaluate the habits that we have created, to practice ways to say no without saying no, and to prioritize self care.
Our members then attended 3 other breakout sessions from the following:
I'm a Project Manager! Now What?
SAFe
Remote Scrum master
Wait, What Did you Say? I Wasn't Listening.
Why Bad Projects are Hard to Kill.
Fail Fast, Fail Often
What Do you Meme Meeting Facilitation?
Developing a Culture of Engagement
Applying Six Sigma to Project Management
After numerous raffle prizes, graciously donated by community members,
Roanoke's very own, Mike Whiteside and Robert Kulp, from Black Dog Salvage, closed out the day with "Best Laid Plans!" Mike and Robert shared with us their spin on project management in the salvage and construction businesses, a view into their project of renovating The Stone House, and shared some behind the scenes footage from their show, The Salvage Dawgs.
This year's success already has us excited for next year's symposium!
